The Statement Of My Poster and Idea

Statement- The Big Thaw Must Not Happen

Description:

Melting of Ice- Caps is perhaps the biggest environmental concern facing the world today. No one expected it to happen this fast; the root cause being Global Warming. Hence, my statement is to communicate to the Public that the big thaw must not happen. This means the melting must be stopped. The major reasons are:

a) Ice is not just a landscape. It is part of the biology of every creature that lives in this frozen vastness.

b) If the Ice-Caps continue to melt, it will change to liquid state (water) or reveal darker land. The water and land are less reflective than Ice and absorbs more solar energy, which in turn speed up the thaw.

c) The surrounding temperature on Earth will increase; affecting all Ecosystems. This results in endangerment and extinction of many animal and plant species, many of which are already at-risk due to other non-climate related factors.

The Idea of My Poster

For this assignment, I plan to create and design a poster that shows part of the situation in Arctic. I drew a giant Ice- Cap at the centre of the poster. The Ice-Cap actually shows it is melting and others are also melting in the Arctic. There are also some small pieces of ice floating on the Arctic Ocean. The purpose of drawing this is to create more awareness to viewers of this poster. The melting of Ice-Caps must not continue to happen. This means everyone must play an active role to stop global warming at once. Besides having the main statement- THE BIG THAW MUST NOT HAPPEN, I added a sub-statement. The sub-statement is “We are given the chance to save it, Save it before it is too late”. The poster indicates there are still Ice-Caps in the Arctic, although the melting process is happening. We are still having and are given the opportunities to save it and stop the melting process. Therefore, all mankind must use this invaluable chance to stop global warming before it reaches a serious, irreversible level. Notice also, in the poster there are a few birds flying in the sky. This represents the migration of animals. When the temperature in the Arctic start to increase, some of the animals are unable to withstand the rising temperature and they will start to migrate; affecting the balance of ecosystems. In conclusion, if global temperature continues to rise, all the Ice will disappear. An Arctic without Ice is unimaginable and would be like a garden without soil. Therefore, I would like to use this poster to emphasize to the public that we are all responsible and can ensure that the big thaw must not happen.
